Paula Abdul
In the 1970s, Abdul rose from being a cheerleader for the Los Angeles Lakers NBA basketball team to being a sought-after choreographer at the height of the music video era, then to being a Pop-R&B singer with a string of hits in the late-1980s and early-1990s. After her initial period of success, she suffered a series of setbacks in her professional and personal life, until she found renewed fame and success in the 2000s as a judge on the television series, American Idol. A new album by Abdul is reportedly set to be released in mid-2008.
During her "Hey Paula" TV series, the original theme song for the series (Paula's first #1 single "Straight Up"), was replaced on the 4th episode with a new song called "Karma" recorded by Paula herself, hinting at a possible comeback.
On January 14, 2008, Fox announced that they will air a pre-taped performance of Abdul's new song, the first single off of Randy Jackson's "Randy Jackson's Music Club, Vol. 1"[13] called "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow" during the Super Bowl XLII pregame.[14] Abdul also recorded the new music video for the song, in which the American Idol cast appears. On January 16, 2008, "TMZ" confirmed that Abdul had started rehearsals for a Super Bowl performance.[15]
The Music video of Dance Like There's No Tomorrow was officially premiered on American Idol on February 21, 2008. The single has since returned Abdul to Billboard's Hot 100 chart for the first time since Crazy Cool, over 12 years earlier. The video received mixed reviews.
